School of Media and Public Affairs

SMPA students learning from behind the camera.

The School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) explores how ideas and information are communicated and how people inform and influence policy and politics. We do this through the rigorous study of media, journalism, and political communication – and we do it in a city that is the epicenter of decision-making for our nation and the world.

SMPA succeeds by achieving the right balance of the scholarly and the practical. Our faculty members advance their fields while guiding students to find their life’s work.

To remain in a leadership position, however, and to better compete for top students, we need additional resources for our people and our programs.
