On April 12, the George Washington University celebrated the power of education and the promise of tomorrow's leaders at its annual Power & Promise dinner.

More than 350 guests—donors, students, parents, university leaders, and friends—came together to recognize the impact of scholarships and fellowships. Many donors were able to meet and connect with the students who are the beneficiaries of their scholarships--a special and emotional experience for those on both the giving and receiving ends.

Benedict Vergara, SEAS '19, opened the evening by expressing his gratitude for the support he receives through the Emanuel A. Beck Endowed Scholarship and the Stanley M. Baer Scholarship in Electrical Engineering, which he described as the "bridge between my engineering dreams and reality." He introduced President Thomas LeBlanc, who highlighted the very real impact that financial aid has on attracting and retaining top students to GW.

Anahi Hurtado, SMPA '19, recipient of the Schneider-Taylor Family Endowed Scholarship, shared moving remarks about immigrating to the United States as a young child, her path to higher education, and her GW experience, which has been filled with #OnlyAtGW moments such as meeting French President Emmanuel Macron. "Financial aid is more than just the funding I needed to come here and realize my dream," she said. "It's hard to give one example of how scholarships shaped my GW experience, because they are what made my GW experience possible in the first place."
