A Spotlight on Scholarships
Eman Dadashian, SMHS '22
"Without this scholarship, my family would never be able to afford to keep me in medical school. The scholarship is my motivation to keep going and affirms my passion for studying medicine and helping people. I know I could not accomplish any of this without the support of my generous donors. Thank you."
GW Cares fund leaves a lasting impact on the student community
Throughout the COVID-19 health pandemic, the GW community banded together in tremendous ways to support and ensure the safety and wellbeing of a number of students who were drastically impacted by the unexpected halt in their semester and forced to undergo uncertain life pivots. Donated funds helped students travel home at the beginning of the pandemic, supplied students with wifi hotspots to continue their education, and even helped with emergency housing or food assistance. As such, we are proud to share how far the ripple effect of contributions to the GW Cares Emergency Student Assistance Fund went in helping so many of our students and families adjust to a new reality.
Although the students who received awards remain anonymous for personal reasons, a recent recipient of the fund states,
"The GW Cares Assistance award was a 'breath of fresh air' in a difficult time. I had been searching for ways to cater for my financial needs during the COVD-19 pandemic, because I was unemployed. To the donors of this I award, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. I am blessed because you gave. Thank you!"
Another student explains,
"I am thankful for the assistance received. Amid all the negative things that have happened, it gives me hope to know that there are still people out there doing their best to help those in need. I hope things will get better and we’ll be back stronger."

Celebrating GW's Inaugural Giving Day
GW’s first-ever Giving Day on April 7 was a landmark event in our 200-year history. In celebration of the university’s bicentennial, the GW community raised $969,993 from 2,182 donors for student scholarships and support, university initiatives, and other areas of need for individual schools and units.
The GW community provided over 30 matches and challenges to encourage their peers to make a gift, including a $200,000 match to scholarships from an anonymous donor. Gifts to scholarship and financial aid were the top supported funds on Giving Day. When donors like you support scholarships, it helps to ensure that qualified students, regardless of financial resources, can pursue their studies and take full advantage of the GW experience.
We are proud of how the community came together on Giving Day to support students. We couldn’t have done any of this without you—thank you for your generosity.

"Providing care and honoring someone’s dignity is what I want to do every day. Your gift to support scholarships benefits my education and every patient that I will treat throughout my career. Thank you for believing in me and in my ability to provide transformational and compassionate care."
Abdoul Diallo, GWSB ’22
"Your support has reduced the mental and financial burden of paying for college for my family. Education has always been a priority for my family and your generosity allows me to fully focus on that."
